My recent blogging patchiness does have a good excuse— I graduated yesterday! Four years and I finally have a flimsy bit of paper that says I am a Master of Arts (Hons) of the First Class from the University of St Andrews. In all this madness I’ve been a bad blogger (sorry lovely readers, I shall reward you with a competition soon), and only have time for a quick round up.
- After the madness of Oxford’s Professor of Poetry election, The Guardian’s Book Blog looks forward to Geoffrey Hill’s tenure
- The wonderful West Port Book Festival starts tomorrow in Edinburgh with some excellent–and free!– events including the magical Douglas Dunn and Jim Carruth among many, many others.
- I hope everyone has been keeping up with the World Cup Poems– some of them are great!
On a more personal level, it has been a very rushed and intense few days. It’s lovely to have the parents up visiting and yesterday’s ceremony and garden party was topped off by a very tasty meal Rufflets.
I’m so utterly shattered that the shift from student to graduate hasn’t really hit home yet. The Grad Ball is on Friday– a final chance to say goodbye to fellow students, hopefully it won’t be too emotional and reflect on the things I’ve learned at University.
Sorry for the probably entirely boring personal crap, will be back to blogging about things infinitely more interesting than me in the next few days!
